Interested in trying popular foods from another country? I talk a lot about Angola and Argentina on this blog, so today I’m sharing with you some everyday foods from those countries you can find online.

Think of it as a way to taste the flavors of a foreign country from the comfort of your living room! Happy Eating!

ANGOLA

Salted Cod

This was huge in Angola. It’s a dish popular in Portugal and since Angola was a Portuguese colony….well, Angolans love it too. You will find salted cod everywhere in Luanda. In all the grocery stores and street markets.

Let me know if you like this salted fish

Guarana Antartica Soda

This was a popular drink in Angola. Like a lot of their frozen meat, it’s shipped in from Brazil (another old Portuguese colony). It has a cherry/berry taste...

Maria Biscuits (My Favorite on the Angola List)

Our company kept these stocked in the kitchen and I was so thankful! The cracker is a little thicker than the crackers I’m used to so just a handful will keep you more than full!

Piri Piri

This sauce is from Portugal and very popular in Angola. In Luanda grocery stores, there were several piri piri sauces to choose from. You can also find it all over South Africa as well. It’s very versatile but I enjoy it in chicken dishes.

Jelly Tots

This candy is imported from South Africa but you’ll find it in every Luanda shopping check out line. Let your inner child have some fun with these sugar coated jelly beans

ARGENTINA

Chimichurri Sauce

This is the exact traditional chimichurri sauce I saw in Buenos Aires grocery stores. Next time you have a steak, pour some of this over it and you’ll feel like you’re in Argentina. Better yet, add a glass of Malbec!

Alfajores

If you haven’t tried alfajores you are missing out. I’ve never met a person that didn’t enjoy alfajores. They are delicious cookies sandwiched together with dulce de leche. And then the whole cookie is dipped in chocolate! Please try them today...you won’t regret it.

Dulce de Leche

Speaking of dulce de leche...you can buy it by the jar. And you should. It’s delicious. The Argentines eat it in so many of their desserts. I love to dip apples in it.

Chocolinas

These are all over Argentina. You’ll find them in every kiosco and mercado. Chocolate cookies...what more could you want.

Turron & Mani

We got a few of these in our year-end holiday gift box and they’re really popular. If you enjoy nougat and peanuts then this could be your new go-to candy!

Mate

It’s hard to think of Argentina without also thinking about their most beloved beverage - Mate. Share it with your friends or sip it alone. If you like mate then you’ll definitely fit in living in Argentina!

And don’t forget a signature mate cup!

Quince Paste

If you stop inside any Buenos Aires panaderia, you’ll find quince (a Mediterranean fruit) paste being used in multiple desserts and facturas. Slice this up and use it in cookies, donuts, cakes and pies.

I hope the foods you purchase take you on a fun culinary journey. I love that online shopping exists so you can taste a little bit of different countries whenever you want.

Let me know in the comments what you are planning to try!
